2nd Prize for the St Benediktus Quarter in Düsseldorf
Open ensemble for the new „Central Community”

The new quarter between St. Benediktus and Baldurstrasse in the district of Heerdt, which won second place in the competition, presents itself as an open ensemble of three buildings with clear addresses and inviting plazas. The community center faces the church and the CBT residential building, while the daycare center opens up to a neighborhood square on Baldurstrasse, which is bordered to the west by the new residential building. The ensemble and the connecting open spaces encourage interaction within the community, the new “central community”. The typology of the buildings is embedded in the historically developed environment of pitched roofs. However, the form of the three elongated buildings responds to the buildings to the north along Alt-Heerdtstraße and their inclination to the residential buildings on Baldurstraße. The ensemble thus reflects the scale of the neighborhood, and the converging ridge heights tie it together.

Congratulations to Halfmann Architekten for the 1st prize!
